NDSoR – Explicit Instruction Academy – Training the Trainers with Anita Archer

Even trainers need training!

Join the NDSoR Explicit Instruction Academy and gain tools to deliver explicit instruction AND to train additional staff in explicit instruction strategies at any grade or content level. Participants will learn to design instruction that focuses on critical content, breaks down complex skills, and provides systematic instruction and judicious practice. They will also learn research-based strategies for delivering instruction that engages students and maximizes instructional time and how to further coach others in these practices. Participants will receive the materials to train and coach others in explicit instruction practices across the content areas and grade levels. 

Among the critical content and skills discussed are:

• Active engagement/opportunities to respond
• Lesson structure and design for both skills and strategies
• Guidelines for identifying key concepts, strategies, skills, and routines to teach
• Effective instructional corrections
• Strategies for providing practice and feedback
• Incorporating vocabulary instruction into all content areas

Included in the cost of registration is the book Explicit Instruction: Effective and Efficient Teaching by Archer and Hughes.

DELIVERY: This multi-day opportunity will be delivered FACE-TO-FACE over 5 consecutive full-day sessions.

AUDIENCE: This series is primarily intended Content Area Teachers and Special Education Teachers.  Curriculum Directors and Instructional Coaches may also benefit from attending this series.
