NDREA – FEATURES OF EFFECTIVE MATH INSTRUCTION – EXPLICIT, SYSTEMATIC INSTRUCTION (Washburn)
This workshop (formerly known as Features of Effective Math Instruction Part 1) is for teachers, school administrators, instructional coaches, and ND REA staff.
Participants will explore the following elements of research-based mathematics instruction:
-explicit, systematic instruction with modeling;
-multiple opportunities to practice and respond;
-immediate and corrective feedback;
-cumulative mixed review; and
-procedural skill and fluency
Following the study of these elements, participants will analyze their current math textbook using the Textbook Effective Math Instruction Scoring Rubric to determine current curriculum’s strengths and weaknesses and apply knowledge gained in the Features of Effective Math Instruction workshop to address identified weaknesses in textbook.
