2025 Justice Teaching Institute for Teachers
October 16, 2025 - October 17, 2025
FreeDates: October 16-17
Location: Bismarck, N.D. State Capitol
Target Audience: Social Studies Teachers in Grades 8-12
The North Dakota Justice Teaching Institute (JTI) is sponsored by the North Dakota Supreme Court and taught by North Dakota Supreme Court Justices over a day and a half. The JTI provides teachers with the opportunity to take a deep dive on the Fourth Amendment and the trial process, from District Court to the state Supreme Court. Teachers will learn about the North Dakota Court System and participate in both a mock District Court trial and a Supreme Court appeal argument, both based on an actual North Dakota court case related to the Fourth Amendment. Teachers will also receive resources to take back to their classrooms to share with their students.
There are NO fees to attend this program, and expenses for lodging, meals, and mileage will be reimbursed. The Institute is designed to provide the minimum contact time of 15 program hours, including 12 hours on-site and three additional hours for classroom implementation, as required for the participants to earn one graduate credit from the University of North Dakota. The credit fee is covered by the program. For questions about the Institute, please contact Bryan Pechtl at: bpechtl@ndcourts.gov
