This practical course for teachers defines terms related to phonics and methods for teaching it. You will use that information to build plans for incorporating phonics and related decoding strategies into classroom reading instruction. You will review research showing the efficacy of phonics instruction, consider physical and social student learning challenges and effective responses to those challenges so students will be better able to read with understanding. By analyzing a variety of teaching strategies, you will be better able to select those that are a best fit for you and your students. Resources for this class will be available online.
Professor-to-student and student-to-student feedback are very important in this course. This sharing clarifies what is being learned as well as enhances understanding and possibilities for classroom applications.
